The Archaeological Museum of Lamia is housed on the 1st floor of the Barrack that is located in the archaeological site of the castle of Lamia. The barrack, inside the walls of the castle, was built on the top of a steep hill, which was considered the acropolis of the ancient city. The hill, which had been walled from the 5th century BC , continued playing an important role up till the Othonian era. The building where the archaeological museum is housed is listed as a preserved monument and cannot be expanded. It can be restored in order to preserve its character and good condition and reinforce it.
Historical description-Flashback: The barrack, inside the walls of the castle, was built on the top of a steep hill, which was considered the acropolis of the ancient city. The hill, which had been walled from the 5th century BC , continued playing an important role up till the Othonian era. The builkding of the barracks was built for military purposes in until World War II. In 1871 the building was destroyed due to an explosion in the powder magazine, In 1973 the space and the building of the Barracks were given by the Ministry for defense to the Ministry for Culture. In 1984 the Municipality of Lamia has started repairing the building to house the Archaeological Museum which was opened on September, 25 1994.

Directions: The city of Lamia is in the centre of Sterea Ellada (Central Greece) and is connected with the main highway (PATHE). There are public means of transportation (coaches of KTEL Fthiotidas, National Railway), reaching the centre of the city where you can use a car or taxi to take you to the Castle of Lamia and the Archaeological Museum.
